I'd also agree. The edge of a clipped planchet tends to look like this:

The pressure is not equal either side. The Blakesley effect, as it is known creates a smoothish side on the surface experiencing the initial pressure; and a less coherent state below. In this image, the left hand side would have been upper when struck.
