i found a very small Mercury dime may half of normal size
can anyone tell me if they were ever made that small?

Most coins that are much smaller or much larger than mint issues were usually produced as novelties.

It might be a coin miniature, they were quite popular in the 1970s and 1980s. We can only see who has the lucky guess until the pictures are published.
