I'm just curious if anybody here collects these coins, because I've taken an interest in the numerous issues and the history behind the coins.

Given the rarity/value of some of these, I imagine that counterfeiting is a problem, especially today. Are there any good books to research this subject and learn more? Thanks!

I have a few, just some of the cheaper ones. A coin from Chihuahua, Oaxaca and Puebla, and some notes from Chihuahua and Durango.

I collect them as part of my "one from every country" collection.

G'day, I also enjoy the intersection of coin-collecting, with my other interests in history.
Lately, I've been collecting Napoleonic coins, to illustrate the many rapid changes between 1792 and 1815. Not least of these is the fact that during the "Cent Jours" in 1815, the workers in the Paris Mint managed to produce gold coins with Napoleon's image. Makes you wonder why we have to wait so long for new designs nowadays. But maybe, the answer is that our leaders are not as charismatic as "Boney".
There is another thread, with many contributions by SwamperBob, about forged silver coins. I recall that Mexico got a mention, but perhaps not this era.
I'd love to learn more about the Mexican Revolution, but that'll have to wait until I finish a few other projects.

I had seen in the North American coins book the section on the Mexican revolution coins. I also have an interest in acquiring coins from this period. The only related coin I have is a 200 peso coin from the 80s that commemorates the Mexican revolution and has profiles of some of the notables from that period, including Pancho Villa. During a trip to the Copper Canyon in Chihuahua Mexico last year we ran across a few stores selling Pancho Villa themed goods. There is even a museum dedicated to him in Chihuahua City that has the car he was assasainated in. We even got to go through Columbus, New Mexico where Pancho Villa performed a raid before he retreated back to Mexico. I recall it being a notable town since it was the only time in history the United States was invaded by a foreign army. Check out the movie starring Pancho Villa as Himself to get some more about the infamous man.
