I don't know what to say. I just got a package in the mail today from a purchase I made last weekend: An 1881-H Canadian dime and an 1885 Canadian dime (both from the same seller). When I got home tonight I took the package from my mailbox and brought it inside the house to the kitchen, where I got the scissors and cut open the padded envelope. Inside the coins were wrapped again in plastic padding so I cut that open too. Both popped out of the wrapping and landed on the kitchen countertop. I picked one up to check it out and saw it was the 1881 dime. In the meantime, my wife picked up the other dime to look at it, but it slipped out of her hands and fell to the floor and rolled directly UNDER the dishwasher. Needless to say it 'vanished'.
It either made it far enough back to where it couldn't be seen/touched; or fell through the floor cracks to the crawlspace under the house. My wife told me she was sorry for dropping the coin but I told here (lying) that it was OK. I didn't really want her to know how much I spent for the coin so I'm still pretending it's no big deal.
I'm just not sure what to do now. I don't know if I should hire someone to disconnect and pull out the dishwasher now, or wait until the machine needs a later repair/replacement sometime later.
Anyways, this is the most money I have paid (so far) for a Canadian dime. I did send positive feedback to the seller a little while ago, but I've got this pain in my chest.

Thanks for the input! After reading your posts, I checked out my dishwasher and it does look very simple to un-screw it from the countertop. The two things I need to worry about now are (A) the plumbing hookups, and (B) seeing if the machine will still make it out of the opening (there have been at least two newer floors added to the old flooring since I bought this house).
I have all day tomorrow to play with it after the wife goes to work, so I'll give it a shot then. Wish me luck!!
Most of the time a dishwasher will have a small cover at the bottom that gives you access to the front leveling screws. If you take that cover off, you may be able to look under it with a flashlight and see the coin. Even if you don't, you should be able to see the plumbing and electrical hookups. You should turn the circuit breaker to your dishwasher off before you start! Good luck, and if you don't feel comfortable tackling it yourself, call a plumber.
My wife's reactions would be about the same. Looks like everyone has given you good advice and I think I have some to add. First if your dishwasher is near the sink the you can bet that the plumbing for the dishwasher is tied in under the sink. You should see an extra supply line under the sink coming off the hot water pipe and heading for the dishwasher, shut the valve off for the line going the the dishwasher. Also you should see a drain pipe coming from the dishwasher as well it is usually a flexible pipe connected with a hose clamp that will come off with screwdriver or pliers. Then once you take the cover off the bottom dishwasher the water connection should be right there and depending on the connection can be removed by hand or a 5/8 wrench. With the power off take the cover off the electrical box and disconnect the wires but look first a lot of time there is enough wire to pull the dishwasher out without disconnecting. You make have to help the drain hose back through the hole from the under the sink but the dishwasher should pull out after you unscrew it from the counter. As for the extra layers of floor if you screw the leveling legs up they should clear the floor.
and last but not least I think everyone will agree once you find it
