I went to Wells Fargo bank today to buy some rolls to look through. They did not have any halves so I asked for a box of nickels. They told me there was a $5.50 charge for the box. I told them I have multiple accounts with them even my home mortgage but they said they still had to charge the $5.50 per box. I can go to any other bank where I do not have an account and get boxes for face with no sur-charge. Is it worth my time to call and complain? I also think I found my new dump bank.

Sure, you could complain but they might use the argument that it costs money for them to receive more boxes. Thats what my bank said. Although, if you have all those accounts with them, just tell them that you will no longer bank with them if they are going to hassle you like this.

I bank with wells fargo as well. I have never been charged for a thing. I would definitely call around and complain that you are a valued customer and expect nothing but the best or you'll lift your accounts and go elsewhere....that'll make them change their mind fast :) I suppose it depends who you deal with, maybe I got lucky as me and my teller get along really well.

I also Bank at Wells Fargo (mortgage, checking, etc). A couple of branches want to charge me while a couple others never give me any problem. It must be a specific branch policy. Sometimes they will ask if I have an account, but then never verify. There is a different bank that also NEVER has EVER asked if I have an account nor have they ever hinted at charging me. I guess it all depends on the bank/branch/person/etc

The branches that wanted to charge me are now my dump bank.

Exactly....make them do all the crappy work since they wont help you out. Bring gallons of pennies and plop them on the counter and say i'd like to cash this :)

I wanted to order a box of halves near my bank once and they wanted to charge me too. I almost told them what they could do with that box of halves. However, it may not be a bad idea to order 2 boxes and see what you come up with. With the melt value of silver, you might find it worth your efforts.

I think it's branch specific. I also use Wells Fargo and the main downtown branch doesn't charge but some of the outlying branches do. Shop around for ones that don't and use the others as dumps.
