I haven't seen any of the new £1 coins in circulation yet ! According to The Royal Mint they were distributed to banks weeks ago for release last Monday. My local bank says they won't arrive here (southern Scotland) until 13th April. Have you seen one yet ? Where was that ?

Hi Pertinax The Change Checker website published a map showing banks that were guaranteed to have them in stock on the first day: https://blog.changechecker.org/2017...-guaranteed/I went to my usual branch (not on the map) yesterday and they hadn't got any yet. Today I needed to go to Maidstone, so I made a little detour to Sittingbourne, which is the nearest place on the map to where I live and is just a few miles from Maidstone. In the branch of Santander was a notice stating that the new £1 coins were only available to Santander customers. Luckily I am one! I asked the cashier if I could have some of the new coins, and was told they were rationed to 2 per customer! So I got my first two - both dated 2016! Hope you get some soon!

I am hearing the mintage of these is 500 million, so I don't understand why the limit of two. Guess I was lucky at HSBC in Newbury which gave me a bag last Thursday. Sadly no spares left.

HSBC in Burton on Trent had plenty last Thursday, all dated 2016 though. Seems the 2017 dated coins have not been released yet.
Also, a mule has been reported with 2017 in the micro lettering but dated 2016....

I went to the bank earlier ( Lloyds ) and I had no problem getting some, I got a " how many do you want " reply which surprised me after reading the other posts last night. 1 bag was enough for me

Make sure you get your magnifying glass out, some are mules !! Dated 2016 on the obverse, but the tiny micro lettering on the reverse says 2017. Nobody knows how many are out there yet tho, so keep your eyes peeled !!
I only have 4 so far. Rationed to two from the bank, and another two from the betting shop. Hope to visit my old postmistress to get a bag or two shortly.

A family member of mine works in the bank. They've got hundreds of bags already, and all searched through to find any with the word 'trial' written on, as these are worth over £200 ! I've had a few, and I quite like the design and feel of them!

They're all 2016 ones, that are worth maybe double their face value.

Quote: Whereabouts on the reverse is the micro lettering? Micro-lettering - it has very small lettering on the lower inside rim on both sides of the coin. One pound on the obverse "heads" side and the year of production on the reverse "tails" side, for example 2016 or 2017. https://www.thenewpoundcoin.com/

The new 12-sider is well in circulation now. I had three as change from a shop today. While I haven't noticed any major flaws, I have one where the floral crown is slightly more to the left than the others. See how much of the shamrock overlaps the outer ring?
