Hello all! I'm going to look at a 1795 flowing hair silver dollar thats for sale in my neighborhood tomorrow. Ive got a couple mediocre pics of the coin, so knowing that theres about 50 different varieties, I figured I would I would find the variety today, so I have a better Idea of what and how to negotiate the sale tomorrow if relevant. The coin is a 1795 flowing hair dollar, from the best I can tell by the pics, its a 2 leave variety and not a plug. (the seller isn't familiar, or at least says he isn't). Ive gone through many PCGS die variety examples, and can not find a reverse example matching this coin. The only matching reverse die to this coin belongs to a 1794 B1-B11. The obverse definetly appears to be a 1795 though. I'm suspecting its a counterfeit for that reason, as well as the wear on the coin is funny. The obverse would come in at a 6-10, well the reverse would probably bring a 25-30. Does anyone know of a variety matching this? Or should I throw this deal in The trash? Heres the coin in question, along with an authentic from PCGS:

This isn't some common date $10 coin. I would tell him he's got a deal if he has it slabbed first. If it comes back as authentic, I'd pay for the slabbing fee.

Look at the eagle's breast feathers, now compare to real, what do you think? I don't like the second star from the 5, this may be die diff's, don't seem right.? , no slab, raw rare coin,, you can buy fakes for less than $10... Run, Forrest, Run!

Thanks! I'm leaning on the counterfit side for sure. I am however, still going to check it out. I'm going to take Nickle Guys advice and make the slabbing offer. If it comes back authentic, ill throw him the fee. Hell, ill even double the fee! If hes up to it,ill bring him an unsigned, certified check for the cost of the coin and grading. Then if it comes back legit, he cant back out. Im going to bring my micrometer and ten thousanths digital scale with as well. Just cause if I dont, ill always wonder. Just like Crazyb0 said, the isn't a 1921 Morgan, this is a 1795 Flowing! A rare, key date coin, fo r the pice its offered at?!?!? I mean, hes not giving it away, but I guarantee youre not gonna find another for this price. You know what they say about 'too good to be true'... If I jump ship completely tomorrow ill reply with the asking price and info if anyone else feels lucky!

I said "counterfeit" as soon as I saw the reverse. The eagle looked skinny and sick. Then I looked at the obverse and reverse. How can a genuine coin grade Good - Very Good on the obverse and Choice VF or EF on the reverse? It's a fake. Don't get sucked in by greed.

The wear on this coin just doesn't make sense to me. The obverse looks to be about Fine, and the reverse looks uncirculated. The coin looks fishy.

Sorry I didnt get back to this thread sooner, I had a busy month. So I had to see this coin in person, just so I didnt wonder,"what if?" For the rest of my life... As we all suspected, shes a fugazi fellas. Unless the made some of these weigh 18g instead of the regulation 27g. In case you were wondering, the asking price was 450. As mkman123 mentioned, any cpin shop would gladly pay 1000+ for this if genuine. Thanks for keeping me grounded fellas! Happy hunting to you all!
