Devin, is that the correct rev pic? It doesn't seem to match the obv pic.

Spence, you're right, my computer got the images mixed together for some reason. I fixed it! Quote: Its a copy, there is a stamp saying Copy on the reverse, at the end of CENT That is not a stamp but damage. Possibly being graffiti that says COPY. I doubt it though.

Ok much better now. I'm with CGC--looks to me like somone added the word COPY to the rev. That doesn't mean that this piece was created using the electrotype process (your actual question). Someone else with more experience in this area will have to weigh in on that subject.

Quote: Possibly being graffiti that says COPY. I doubt it though. You're right. I could totally see why out of the million words in the dictionary some random person would choose the write "COPY" for no reason on your coin

I think the word copy is a hint.

What are we seeing next? A chain cent that says "GENUINE" on it?

I don't think that it is an electro. If it were, there would be gray metal showing when the "COPY" has been punched in. I think that it is a cast copy.

Ok I am sorry but maybe as the new guy this is an inside joke I am not a part of: so you have a 1794 Half Cent marked COPY and you think it is just graffiti? I do not understand what is going on with this thread.

Not an electrotype, but a cast copy most likely.
But hey, it's your money!

Typically eletrotypes will have plain edges.

Thank you! The coin is in a lot, and was wondering...just in case it could be real!
Oh well!

So it is not your coin? It is 100% fake. It does not match any obverse die either let alone having COPY stamped in it.
Do you have the coin in hand then? I mean I guess it COULD be an electrotype but what made you think that?

No the coin is not mine.
The seller said it may be an electrotype, so I posted it here.

I guess it COULD be an electrotype but it is probably an old cast replica that somebody stamped COPY. I have 2 such coins including a 1793 Half Cent in my collection somewhere. Most likely a dealer from who knows when got this coin and realized it was fake and stamped it as a precaution. They are cool conversation pieces.
