good morning from the United States of America.

I stumbled across this forum purely by fate (accident) and will be asking questions about many coins I have.

just as an intro... I don't have any knowledge or numismatic smarts.

When I post I will be looking for help identifying the coins and what the value of the coin or coins I am inquiring about.

I would like to sell the over 5000 coins I have but I want a fair market value. Not someone looking to make a bundle reselling my coins like I've seen in the past.

thanks for any help you all can lend me Everett

below is a couple of pictures of a 1864 Indian Head cent.
if anyone can tell me why this particular one flips from the side and not top to bottom like all my other coins. thanks.

oh. if you can also tell if its a 'L' that would be cool also

The 1864 Indian lacks the L ... rounded tip, lower left on the Bust is a diagnostic. The L variety exhibits a pointed Bust. With as many coins as you have, I suggest you buy a Red Book. Varieties are listed therein with pics. Also, consider joining or attending a local coin club, so you can network with local collectors and get hands-on feedback.

Good luck!

This, and the other diagnostic is the distance between the tip of the hair curl and the left serif of the last A in AMERICA. I use this for all bad pictures where the tip of the bust cannot be determined or is flattened or otherwise distorted.

This image is used a lot, but I added the pink lines to show the diagnostic I speak of.

And as to your other question, it sounds like the coin you have has a mint error. The type would be called "rotated reverse", and probably 180 degrees if it lines up when flipping on the horizontal axis. Can bring a minor premium when sold.
