Looks fake to me. Color looks off, has a big scratch on the reverse going though America. I'd only buy this coin is if it was certified by PCGS or NGC, for a rare coin that is highly faked always buy certified After reviewing the coin it could be legitimate, especially the strike through on the reverse and die crack that matches known examples via PCGS coin facts http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/7515

Here is the one in my collection. If the color is accurate on your piece in the photo, I find the pinkish toning to be odd. I have never seen that on a gold piece. It looks like some sort of foreign coating. Flipping back and forth between the two sets of photos, I think that you coin is genuine, but that has something odd on it. The sharpness grade is AU-50, but until I can tell how the gold looks, I can't say much more than that. The scratch on the reverse will probably prevent it from getting a straight grade even if the pink stuff turns out to be not a problem.

What is the star mark on the lower left reverse?

So you are bidding on that one too. I can no longer afford to bid, but I won't be a jerk and post the link here.
I decided it was genuine because the reverse die crack and clash marks match up exactly to known specimens.

OK. Now that's it's sold here's my 2 cents. Yes it's real and I grade it AU-53 perhaps 55. Value at least $2400.00+ I've dealt with this seller before and have had no issues. I hope a collector bought this coin because I believe they got a bargain.

Quote: What is the star mark on the lower left reverse? A clash mark. It shows up on some of the pieces shown on the "Coin Facts" site.

I assume the color is not correctly depicted - is that right, canary?

Thank you Bill. I have little knowledge of these coins, and have not seen clashed examples before.

Quote: I assume the color is not correctly depicted - is that right, canary? This is a scan, and scans kill coins. Just look at my 1864 L thread for an extreme example.
