These appeared in the latest box of coins donated to my local Hospice. What are they please? And an approx. idea of value? Thank you in advance for helping me

Can you please supply weight and diameter? As a word of warning, if they are attracted to a magnet it's almost certain that they are modern copies or fantasies.

They are 38mm in diameter and, as you suggest, they are magnetic. I already had them down as modern and almost certainly not of high value because a)they were not carefully packaged when donated and b)I know that if it looks too good to be true...

Thank you for the magnet suggestion. I really should have tested that before posting. Every day is a school day!

They are "fantasy dollars", mass-produced in China and sold to tourists there, as well as exported for sale in the street markets in other countries. They are "fantasies" because neither China nor any other country has ever issued coins with designs like these.

These particular fantasy dollars depict figures from Chinese history and mythology. I believe the four around the outside each depict one of the Eight Immortals of Taoism. The one in the centre depicts one of the Four Great Beautiful Women; it appears to be the same as this one.

As for value, they usually sell for a couple of dollars each at the street markets, but collectors don't really want them, so there is virtually no resale value.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Ah, well! I guess we won't be building the new wing any time soon then! Thank you for the information. Back to the box of mystery coins! (my best so far was a William IV Half crown which made over £90)
