I've got about a 40 pound copper hoard. I was wondering when most people sell their hoards.

When the penny goes away and prices rise. Wouldn't be worth it to sell now IMO.

Sid , who do you intend on selling it to ? Dealers will not buy them , collectors will not buy them , and the smelters won't buy because it's still illegal to melt copper cents . 95% copper Lincolns are still in abundance and still circulating with no shortage to speak of ,so why would anyone buy them ?
Rest in Peace

T-Bop, I even have the fancy copper rounds @ 3 lbs of it that to sell now would be ridiculously stupidociously defunctitorily insane in today's market. PM's are a buyers market not a sellers and won't be for quite some time it seems.

So much for Bullion flipping...

so are you saying hoarding copper is pointless? There are a few people selling their hoards on ebay, and it says they have sold a couple batches. for example, http://www.ebay.com/itm/15-10LB-195...AOSwLnBXXOMw

hoarding copper isn't worth it. silver takes up 100x less space and the market will fluctuate enough that you could actually call it an investment.
if it sells by the pound instead of the ounce I wouldn't keep it.

Soybeans sell by the ton and you can make money buying and selling it. You usually don't store them in your office, though.

When the 1oz copper rounds came out I bought the series coins, just becausevthey looked sharp, not for any " investment purpose", that would be the "Precious" metals, of which copper is not among the major players anymore, (too much scrap). I used to give out the patriotic copper rounds to my contracting customers, more appreciative than a silly pen!

I think copper peaked around 6 years ago, and has been hovering around "not even worth it" since then. I dumped 75+ pounds ($110) into a coinstar a few months back for an Amazon gift card. No regrets here.

Just let them be. They don't eat bread and they don't require their own tv. Right now the market is bad for copper, and copper hoarding never lived up to the expectations a significant group of people had a few years ago. But the world is a dynamic place, so who knows what happens next?

I honestly don't care much about what other people do or claim to do with copper hoards now. It's what's feasible for you, and then T-BOP is spot on.

My copper pennies are in large clear plastic containers, the two or three gallon size. So they make interesting conversation pieces.

If you have the space for them, then keep them. Hoarding copper is a long term play at best. Otherwise just dump/deposit for face value.

I have about 800lbs of copper cents sitting around.

I used to have a buyer when copper was $3/lb.

When it tanked to $2/lb overnight he disappeared.

I stopped getting boxes of cents after the drop.

I would sell to anyone who shows up to take them off my hands for a profit.
