Should this be in this forum or the Variety & Error subforum?

One of my favorite Sheldon cherry picks. A rare one but one that is actually easy to spot. Very few 1796 Rev of 97 have the "6" embedded in the bust and only 1 is common. The die crack on the first "T" in STATES that showed up in S-113 is a strong give away of the proper reverse as well as the fraction bar ending far to the right of the "1" which is of itself way left.

I got luckily enough to upgrade so time to sell this one which will not be easy as small group of people looking to complete a 1796 Sheldon set.

It had been in a 2x2 holder for decades when I got it and years after that it stayed. I have only gotten it out of that cardboard holder this afternoon to take pictures.

Enjoy!

to CCF. There's a few of us "copperheads" around. ;)

It's an S-114 R5, and that's the only things going for it, but that's enough. It is around a 10 sharpness, cleaned, scratched, corroded and much lower net. Might bring anywhere from 750-1.5k at auction depending on the bidder, the sale, and how much they're willing to put up with in terms of having problem coins in the cabinet. The R5 is based on CQR and gets parroted by auction houses and dealers, and I think that Robinson overstated the scarcity, several examples are usually for sale at any given point in time and they show up for auction quite regularly.

Still, any S-114 is a good S-114 to have, just like any 1796 is a good 1796 to have.

I'd like to see a picture of the one you're upgrading it with!

It looks like a S-114 to me too.

to CCF That's a nice 1796 I don't have an S-114. I hope you decide to stay around here as there are a lot of old copper collectors.
