Probably a cheap gold plating, coin is considered "damaged" now, worth less than a 1890 IH would sell for...

Indian Head cents were never made in gold, but its possible it was plated. Sorry, but hard to tell from your pictures.

Agree probably plated. (But there are actually some gold IHCs known, struck on quarter eagle planchets.)

While it is possible your coin is solid gold (struck on a $2.50 planchet), it is highly unlikely. Weigh it. Indian cents are about 3.1 grams. Gold $2.50's weigh 4.18 grams. Here is a pic of a gold Indian cent. I want one!
