How does a coin get this sort of damage and obviously its something that happened during the painting process does this make it worth more ?

Can you post a pic of the other side, but just looking at this it may have been a piece of jewelry.

You know what I think your right not sure how I didn't see that before. I also have a 1842 Half Dime and a 1890 Morgan silver dollar in extremely good condition any thoughts on the silver ddollar price range ?

Not an error, you coin was soldered into some sort of jewelry mount and then broken out of the mount at a later time which left parts of the mount attached to the coin.
