Well PB you really through me for a loop. I had actually looked at your post before there we any responses, opened Wexler's to the page, but then Mom duties called me away. So when I came back and was reading through your post I thought either you're clairvoyant or I am loosing it (which could actually be the case) because I didn't remember responding at all. Then I read CM's post and then yours and I couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes. Since my knowledge is no where near CM's and since I still end up posting things I should know I'll consider myself lucky. But, now to your post. I use to do what you are doing (growing pains I called them) I would be looking for all the die markers before I even had a confirmation on a Double and up until about 6 months ago I had more MD and Die Deterioration Doubling posts than I care to remember. coop set me straight on that because I ended up spending so much trying to get pics of all that stuff that missed the boat on the variety itself. Anyways, I don't have the best equipment (meaning my USB scope and my eyes) so when it is a really minor double that I think I have then I started out with images like what I have posted here. It was always easier for me to first try and match my image to the Wexler image and then compare them side by side and just a couple devices at a time. It was much easier for me to see differences this way. It they looked good then I proceeded on but if not then on to the next. What I am seeing is that the Wexler devices are much thicker than what I am seeing in your images. I can see some disparity in the Y where the antlers don't look proportional but that may be due to the glare? Hope this wasn't too long and you may well be beyond these methods I used for such a long time.

Thanks coincents ( got it right this time ) side by sides seem to be the way to go. the bad part I looked at this coin for 45 minutes trying to figure out which variety and still missed the notching lol. I'll get there . I'm constantly reading posts and trying to learn . On a good note I have thrown back many many coins that I know now are md,pmd, or things that I was looking too hard for. I've been at this for only four months but thanks to this forum and the people on here always giving good honest answers I have a resource to help me learn .

Also note the inside of the 'R' upper loop area. Note how it is smaller because the device is wider vertically. That is what I look for when searching/view coin images posted here. Note how much small the inside area is on the side by side with your coin and the WDDO-012?

Yes, this is definitely the place to learn our hobby. I've been on here about two years and learn something new everyday. I would like to learn how to make a side by side. I drew an arrow on a pic the other day with paint that came standard in my computer. I think it's in the wrong format to upload here though. I'll keep working on it.

I have too much time on my hands. I guess really my question is how did you make that side by side? Do you have to have an app or can you make it from standard tools on a computer?

I was wondering the same coinmasters( I got it right again thank you ) . Maybe coincents will give us the secret. Coop it does seem a lot easier when it's not looking in a scope and then looking at wexlers and then the scope. Coop you also have great side by sides what do you use to do that .

Looks like a new topic I'll have to work on? Keep watching for it. It will take a bit of time to make it real easy for all. So it will be worth the wait. Completed. It took a coupe of hours of work. But on the site now. Sides by sides. Why are they important?
Probably a lot more to be said, questions on that thread will help fill in spaces of what I forgot to add.

I asked him one time, he said Photoshop 5.5 don't get the update version, it won't work without the full version. I never got it though, I'm thinking something simple as a side by side should be able to be done with standard tools on a computer. I don't know what they're called though. Unfortunately what little I know is self taught. I know things like copy and paste, but have no clue what cut is. lol

Quote: I know things like copy and paste, but have no clue what cut is. "Cut" is like copy, except it not only copies it, it removes it from the original place.

Oh, I see. Thanks Cwb. I just found an amazing coin. I'll have it on site in an hour or two. I'll feel better posting it before I identify it though. It's a new Strong Doubled Die not listed on Wexler's or CC.
