I have two 1937 crowns and just noticed that one doesn't have dots all the way around the rim on the reverse so I did a little reseach and now suspect that it is a fake!

Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

Yeah,i think the one on the RHS is fake, that Chinese batch is probably 10 years old now and ID by a pout on the Kings lips as opposed to tight lips on a genuine one.

It definitely looks a bit off...
Does it pass the Rare Earth / Neodymium Magnet test?
I'd assume that if it were a fake the silver content wouldn't be there, so give that a go.

Have you weighed it? The weight of a genuine coin should be very close to 28.28 grams.

Yeah, but you still have to be very careful, modern Chinese fakes have got the weight almost correct.

I don't have a rare earth magnet to use as an indicator but neither coin is magnetic when tested with a normal magnet.

I'm not sure how accurate my kitchen scales are but when weighed the one on the right is 28g whereas the one on the left shows only 27g (scales are only accurate to one gram) ... so I'm thinking that the weight diference confirms my suspicions?

Thanks both for your help.

the RHS crown is definately a counterfeit "import ". The King's head is wider from L to R, and it appears as though the coin might also be about two or so mm bigger in diameter.

The details on the L and R hand side and inner design of the crown on the coin's reverse clearly shows there are varying size gaps in areas of the crown's fine design details which shouldn't be there.

Unfortunately for you, the coin is most likely made of lead or similar.
