Interesting T1Steel. Clearly they are not Canadian 'coins' but it took a bit to even track down that these are Cook Island legal tender. I still could not find which mint actually produces them but it's not the RCM or they would say so. From the FAQ.."All coins are minted in North America". A lot of smoke and mirrors and basically $100 per oz Ag bullion with a slight chance to get a 1/4 oz Au being pushed by a trading card company. The blind packaging (aka blind purchasing) is a gamble IMO. I'd prefer to get what I want rather than enter a lottery. From the FAQ "All Sales are Final" so no returns on these if you get a player or finish you don't want. http://upperdeckblog.com/2017/04/up...t-condition/http://www.hockeycoins.com/faqs.html

Just another version of the sports card phase, except instead of 8.00 pack looking for the insert or famous rookie you are now betting 499.00, just another ploy to help the NHLPA get richer

I stay with traditional coins like a 1947 ICCS MS65 25ct coin that will always be listed in coin books until eternity. 100 years from now, WHO'S GRETSKY!!

I would quite say that, a 53 Topps Mantle in high grade is worth more than most key date Canadian coins except for a hand full.

I'd suspect that in 100 years, people may have heard of something called a coin that their long dead great-grandparents used as an odd form of payment, and if they want to see a book, they would have to visit a museum. Then again, we'll all be dead so who cares. Eternity is a relative term.

Quote: 100 years from now, WHO'S GRETSKY!! As long as people play and watch hockey, the name Gretzky will be recognized 100 years from now. No different than Babe Ruth still known almost 100 years after he played baseball.

These will probably be 50% off in the summer right?
Also couldn't someone at the bank just weigh the boxes?

Gretzky scored 215 points in 1985-86. He is a Hockey God. In 100 years there will be Churches in his name. Those coins will be sacred.

I live only 200km from Edmonton all my life and I don't have to tell you how big a fan I am of Gretsky. First came God,then Gordie Howe and then Gretsky. You see Gretsky thought Gordie Howe was the Hockey God. I bought the 2011 Greysky 25ct coin and like everything else I'm having a hard time getting $25 bucks for it. The point is the fads were out quick now!! I went on the electronic Canadian Coin News and yes this set is on the front page and there will be lots of talk about it. All coins are current active players except for Gretsky and Roy but there still active in hockey in a different way. CHEERS!!

I'm a Hockey card collector and coin collector so I was interested in these. I logged into my CIBC account to check it out but I couldn't find the mintage listed anywhere on their site so I called; I was passed to 3 representatives and none knew what mintage meant.
The last kind lady put me on hold to try and find out but with no luck, it doesn't appear CIBC knows what the mintage is on these. :(

Other than CIBC selling them, and many of the players on them, there is nothing Canadian about these foreign coins. As big fan, you must have this jersey. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl...ky-1.3240976 It's also worth noting that this the PA and not the NHL. That is, no team names or logos. Limited appeal for fans IMO.
