This is my grandmothers coin in Florida. The bezel is thankfully around the coin and not into the surfaces. I have seen it in hand and it looks like a solid 64/65. I will probably inherit her gold coins down the road, as everything is being left to my mom as she's the only child. Luster is superb. I tried to convince her to let me take it home and crack it out to get graded.

It looks like an MS-65, but there are two caveats. First, since the piece is in jewelry, it may have been gone over with something like jeweler's rouge, which is used to shine or smooth out metallic surfaces. The does not look like that has been done to it, but I can't say for sure from the photos.

Second, although that type of bezel does not attach itself to the surface of the coin, it can scrape the edges of the rim. You won't know until it has been removed.

If both of those factors turn out to be non issues, the coin could have a decent numismatic value, a couple thousand dollars +. If you don't need to sell it right now I'd hold on to it because generic gold is down right now. If gold bullion gets hot, the price could spike.

Oh this would be a piece I don't sell for a very long time if not ever since it's a family heirloom I may get it graded to possibly pass down one day to my family. I will be posting a 1912 S Indian shortly that is my mothers with the same bezel work.

The surfaces look original. Nice color and frosty. MS-65 if it can be removed without damaging it.

Seems undamaged (for now) but I hope your Grandma can avoid the temptation to wear it. I agree it could make MS-64 if the edges are OK. I'd continue to lobby for removal from the bezel followed by certification if no edge problems are found.
Beautiful coin!

I'd say high ms, ms64 I'd say, but it may get a unciulayed details designation similar to a mint state coin with cabinet wear. Beautiful coin regardless

I'd guess MS64 assuming there are no problems with the coin.

I have to confess that the NGC coin looks less than 65 to me.
Compare with MS65 Photograde.
