As this forum is aware, I have a ch. 9030 $10 note (1929) and a ch. 2380 $20 note (1882).
I have a friend that is a paper conservator and has done work for me on lessor notes in the past.
He does great work and never has the note come back NET graded.
He can clean up dirt and really bring the note back to life.
I'm tempted to do the 9030 and 2380 but at the same time hesitant. Both notes are scarce and in the census with their grade, so obviously, if successful, the new grade would not match the census and it would be obvious something was done.
Is this a bad idea?
What are the forum's thoughts on cleaning notes in general and cleaning these two notes.

I really think the 9030 could come back nice with dirt removed and some wrinkles gone.

Somewhat touchy subject, but here goes...

I am in the "original " camp, although I once was on the " cleaning" side of the viewpoint. The majority of value in these notes is just that they exist. They are not common, and the demand for them far exceeds the known supply. I don't see how making them prettier adds a whole lot of value, especially if any mention of a cleaning came up in an auction description .

They're only original once.

I agree with Steve, as these notes are quite uncommon.

Yes. These notes speak for themselves and anyone with enough money to buy them will likely want them in original condition.
