I am new here and hope this post is in the correct place. I have found myself very interested in the world of coins and have been sorting through coins I pick up from boot sales here in the uk. This is the first dollar coin I have found and would like to verify that it is in fact genuine. please find scans attached. Luke

Hi, and thanks for the welcome. I do not have accurate enough scales today, but it is not magnetic.

to the CCF! I believe there were only 880 1895-P (No MM) Morgans minted that year.I am pretty sure all of them were proofs. After comparing yours to the dies that were used that year, The date on your coin looks like it is too far to the right. Doesn't appear to match any of the dies. IMO it is a counterfeit.

It isn't genuine. 1895 philly examples were never released for circulation and they were only issued as proofs. Probably a Chinese counterfeit. Date looks off, and the coin in general has a suspicious look

Chinese sellers are flooding the market with fake Morgans and other classic coins.

to the CCF. We have many experts here to help you ... and my opinion supports the others already offered ... this is not a genuine example of the very rare 1895 Morgan dollar. David

Quote: coins I pick up from boot sales here in the uk. You get more counterfeit coins from boot sales than genuine coins. Boot sales in the UK are equivalent to flea markets here in the US. I 100% guarantee you that the coin pictured in not authentic. Such coins can be had from a Chinese website for about $2 (£1.59) each with free shipping from China. I hope you didn't pay too much.

Always take a good scale & magnet to flea market sellers. I am stunned how many counterfeit coins there are now. Counterfeit precious metals too.

Most likely it is fake. 1895 Morgans with no MM (struck in Philadelphia) were struck as proofs and only 880 of them. They are extremely rare and even more rare if circulated as regular coins. There appears to be metal flaking on Liberty's cheek and raised dots in the obverse field near her nose. The surfaces look like a cast counterfeit coin. Probably not even silver.
