I was searching through a box of cents looking for hole fillers for my LMC set when I found this 1909s vdb I was so delighted to find the king of wheats in a roll. However, it seems to good to be true; upon closer inspection, I feel that it is fake due to the serif on the 1 in the date. Is this fake?

Any coin in value must be looked at closely. Good thing most fakes can be spotted, although some are getting pretty good at it. It's darn shame.

It certainly doesn't look right. I wonder how this got in a roll though. Seems like a strange place to put a fake coin.

I believe it's fake for a few reasons.

However, could you post closer/clearer images of both sides without all of that background? I'd like to see because I've not seen a real or fake in person.

Edit: and close-ups of the date/MM and VDB if possible.

Was this box of cents from your bank, or from ebay?

I don't know if these will help. It's the best I can do with the original pics.

I bet your heart started pounding when you first saw it.

Good job on being careful and insightful enough to question the coin.

I mean, I took two seconds to look at it, and I immediately knew it was fake. Mushy details and the date are a dead giveaway.
