Hi I need help is this a double die coin. You can see on reverse the wording united states of america looks doubled america stands out the most also on obverse the date number 7 looks doubled and Lincolns back looks doubled. This is a nice coin because on reverse side in the archs one seems to be filled in at the top also the coin has a ripple affect sunk in some how even though the obverse side is straight and level cant see any damage to the coin to cause ripple on one side on reverse.

The doubling you are seeing on the 1st and 4th images is the machine damage often found on coins. That is not hub doubling which doubled dies have. This is a form of doubling that is caused after the strike. On a doubled die, the doubling is on the die.

Check this link to find a little test to see what MD and hub doubling (doubled dies) are. The answer for each image is on the area after the #-number on the left. Just scroll over the area to the right of that area and highlight it. Then the answer will be seen.

Another link to tell the differences between doubled die and Machine damage:

What differences to look for.

If referencing bay two, possible die subsidence. Another discussed earlier this month.

Think its showing a bit of ghosting going on as well. PIDT progressive indirect design transfer. Thanks, Doug.
