Zinc rot, a form of corrosion found on 1982-present copper-plated zinc Lincoln Cents.

Zinc rot then more environmental exposure.

Since mid 1982, cents are made of a copper plated zinc core. Zinc, when exposed to moisture rots.

As Biokemist said, zinc rot. The Thin plated zinc core planchet when damaged allows air and other liquid corrosives into the core, disintegration of the zinc begins, early stages of this rot may show up in bubble like appearances and even lines form. Once these bubbles are broken, advanced stage rot like yours happens'

Probably spent some time in a parking lot. The coin was split through by sand, then started to rot when oxygen got to the zinc.
