Looking on ebay I found some silver dollar sized Airtite capsules from China. They are 4.74 with free S&H for 25 capsules. That is roughly half price of the best bargain I found on actual H38 Airtite capsules. http://www.ebay.com/itm/28228921326...RK:MEBIDX:ITBefore ordering I asked if the containers being sold from China have PVC in them. The answer was yes. I ordered the 25 for 9.95 domestically. http://www.ebay.com/itm/31141186443...RK:MEBIDX:ITBut I also have to wonder if maybe I should have just asked the Chinese seller what kind of plastic their capsules are made from instead of specifically asking about PVC. Why? B/c I am wondering if they interpreted my question as desiring PVC and so answered in an affirmative fashion to make a sale? If I ask again, I am not sure if they would remember my email and repeat the answer. So... any CCF eBayer willing to email this Chinese vender and just ask, "What kind of plastic are your capsules made from?" |

Almost all hard clear capsules are made of clear acrylic. I store my $1,000+ value silver coins in them, and have done so with full confidence for decades. Zero deleterious effect so far, and I do not expect any. These are also made of that material. They DO NOT have any PVC in their manufacture. These on ebay are perfectly OK for permanent storage and are offered at a good price. ('I like Chinese' people ! - Ask Monty Python  ) |

I can't speak for these in particular but I ordered some knock off air tites once and ended up throwing them away. I prefer the genuine air tite brand. The ones I ordered were just a hair too small and the coins once inserted were stuck in the holder permanently. I would have to actually crack the capsule to get it out.

I did order the domestic ones which are actual Airtites.
Previously I ordered an inexpensive lot of half dollar capsules from wish.com to see what they would be like. The half dollar fit into the top part well, but the bottom part was JUST too small of a diameter to fit.

This type of plastic does not contain PVC. However, impurities can be present considering the source. They are likely OK chemically but no guarantee. While I've never bought Chinese "airtights" in my experience items like this usually have defective pieces. If any of you have bought this specific kind, let everyone know how you like them. I might trust them to lesser coins but for my good ones I'll stick to the genuine AirTite brand.

I bought some from China before. They don't snap together very securely and were all put in the same plastic bag so they all had scrapes and scratches.

Thanks for this info machine. I was looking at some awhile ago and noted most of the ones I could fin were non-US sizes. It was only recently I found the ones on ebay that were dollar sized. I got my normal Airtites in today. They were separated into two plastic bags - one with tops and one with bottoms. How much squash could a Sasquatch squash if a Sasquatch would squash squash?
