My dad surprised me this morning. He was leaving the office and said he would be back in a bit. He was going to "pick up" some Wheat Pennies.....I said "What?"....he said he saw them advertised in the Classified ads and was going to get them......First I was mad that "I" didn't see it before him !
He gets back and plops two really old canvas bags on my desk......each bag had $100.00 Silver and some old bank name printed on it.....(obviously there weren't silver coins in there now, but it shows you how "old" the bags were!).....
So, I went through 1/4 of a bag and began to tell him that most likely these will have been "picked through" and that all of the dates will be in the '40's & '50's probably......well I didn't get far and I found a 1916, a 1910....and several others in THAT decade, and also some in the 1920's and several in the 1930's.........I then put them back and told him......"You got a good deal here" !
He also bought a small little box of Indian Head Pennies for .30 cents apiece !........the "oldest" date on these was 1887 I think.....so ......no Civil War years or any thing close to that.....but that was a GREAT deal too........12 or 15 of these were put into 2x2's and handwritten with a grade and a "dollar amount"....which of course I told him to ignore.....buy the coin...not the slab(or 2x2 in this case...or someone else's opinion of the grade and value).......but so.....all "later years" of Indian Heads well represented there...
I haven't yet asked him If I could buy these from him...or look through them to see if I can put any into my albums........
But, even though they're NOT mine......I'm still excited !......I had to tell him about "my" deal when I bought 1,000 Wheats for $50.00 too.......which was also "rich" with a variety of "decades represented".
Seems to be some "potential coin luck" in my life recently........I Like It !......(and....I'm waiting on a box of halves to come in too....hummmm....maybe it'll be a "treasure trove"....).....(p.s....what "is" a "trove" ?)

Wow!

I might just have to start getting a newspaper again!

Absolutely! Half the furn (or more) is looking for the treasures, not necessarily keeping them. Like "catch and release" when you go fishing! Reel in a lunker, stare at him with awe and wonder, then send him home!
