Hello all. I have a 1944 D nickle. It is unlike any nickle I have ever seen. It is super smooth and has no definition to marks at all. Can someone please help me understand what I have. Thanks in advance.

Somebody probably polished it. This'll give you an idea of what they did.

The D on revers denotes a 35% silver content War Nickel, most likely polished by the worn off features..

Your 1944-D Jefferson nickel is a member of the 11-coin WWII series of USA nickels that were struck in an alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver and 9% manganese.

It appears by your photographs of very bright surfaces that the coin has been mis-treated in some way ... suggestions already are polished or plated.

Interesting to note the prominent die crack extending from the rim to Jefferson forehead on the obverse ... die cracks are common in the War Nickel series and, while interesting, do not bring added value.

I agree, it looks like it was polished. It is silver, so still a keeper.
