Hi all. At request in answer by SPENCE on my first post:
While looking around in antique shops in Peru, I recently came across this little gem :-) The first thing that struck me was the weird looking lions on the shield. Then the edge was a dead give away. The shop owner said it is a genuine columnario and his asking price was about $350,- He had a few other spanish colonial coins including two cobs that looked weird to me as well. Didnt bother taking pictures of those. I thanked him for his time.

The castles are a pretty good tipoff (rhymes with "ripoff") as well. The globes are also terrible. In fact, the whole is generally pathetic.

A lot of folks may not realize it, but Peru rivals China in counterfeiting, mostly currency but coinage as well. The pictured specimen may very well have been a local product.

Great on the spot photos, by the way.
