This coin is the companion to my 1857 large cent that I posted a few weeks ago. The ol' memory is getting a bit fuzzy but I don't think I've put this one up before.

Any guesses (oops, I meant "informed opinions") on grade?

The tension is thick enough to cut with a knife....I can't take it anymore!

Atlas, thanks for your comment. This coin is mint state according to PCGS and I don't see any reason to doubt their opinion. There is some strike weakness on Miss Liberty's hair and the obverse denticles at 12:00. The letters of Liberty are somewhat blunt. Luster however is intact over the fields and there are few ticks or spots. PCGS graded it RB but it just barely makes that in my opinion. The reverse is totally brown.

Shoot...I got here too late to give my guess as to grade. I was debating because the obverse appears to have some luster, while the reverse, as you pointed out, is definitely brown. That seeming imbalance had me a bit perplexed. Nice coin, though. Congratulations.

That is an older PCGS holder, isn't it? It is possible that the reverse toned over a bit more after slabbing. The obv certainly looks RB. Regardless of color, it is quite a nice coin
