This was posted by Rick Snow on another forum. He believes this was struck on counterfeit dies, possibly from China. It's taken off ebay, but I suppose such coins could show up anywhere...how many problems can you spot in the photos below?

For starters, The Liberty on the headband starts too far to the right. The L is where the I should be.

I've never seen a spread in the 1871 date like that, and what's going on with that ear? It looks like somebody bit Liberty. The biggest flag of course is the wrong obverse style for that year! That resembles a type 2 reverse obverse which was a reworking by Barber for 1886--check position of the last feather.

Other than that obvious "type 2" obverse, I've never seen the numerals spread that much on any date, particularly 1871. In fact, there's one 1871 variety where the last 1 touches the 7!

The last feather is a dead give-away. I just hope those dopes in China keep making stupid mistakes like these. It make things easier for collectors.
