Whenever my time at home coincides with a local coin show I try to make an effort to see whats out there. This is my second visit to the Bryan College Station coin show. The show was smaller than last time I was there with only 13 coin dealers and a few card dealers. If you wanted Morgans or Gold then there was plenty to be had.
2 Cents on the other hand. A different story.
This time I went armed for bear. I have built up a sample set of PCGS slabs with grades from VG to MS. I also took my Photograde and ANA grading guide. last but not least the latest gray sheet.
If I wanted AG coins labeled anything from VG to F then I could have bought a couple of dozen. When I offered prices on these coins the sellers got upset. The two that listened to my description of their coins and allowed me to pull out the photgrade and ANA guide agreed the grades where some what inflated. I ended up buying three problem coins which represented the three highest grades in the show.

Here they be

The 1864 has been soaked in oil to give it the appearance of Luster.. the 68 has been cleaned and the 69 is corroded. these were the best three coins there I thank Royal coins for the 69 sold at Gray sheet bid. Lonestar Numismatics for the 64 again sold at Bid also with the acknowledgment it had been doctored (Not by them). The 68 came from a dealer I have not seen before and forget his name but he was up front about the cleaning and had the grade spot on. The marked price of the coin reflected this.

Well, it's good you went well prepared, and were able to get the best available coins for fair prices. Congratulations! I have had very little luck finding any really nice examples of mid-nineteenth century coins of any denomination recently, but especially the 2 cent and 3 cent pieces.

I go to Texas A&M and I stopped by the show. I am on my internship right now, but I get to go back to CS once in awhile. I went to this one this morning and didn't find much, especially in foreign stuff. I would have bought a few US coins, but I didn't feel like it. Compared with the College Station show, I liked the Ft. Worth coin shows better.

Good finds by the way.

I particularly like the '64. Crumbled rims, strikethrough, the coin has a lot going on.
