Well Team, I was there when it opened and after walking around a bit and talking to a few Black Hills Coin Club Members I knew I found a decent CBH (F-12ish), 1821 O-102 which also happens to be one I needed. I picked it up for $60 which was comparable to a good deal on ebay and I didn't have to wait on the delivery. The rest of the Bust Coinage would have fit in a superman lunch box and was VASTLY overpriced. One MS Roll of 1878-S Morgans had an asking price of $5,000 and MS singles were $300 each!

As you can see the crowd was light to begin with then it really started getting packed and I made my way outside and talked to a buddy about rockhounding. While chatting an older gentleman overheard our conversation about agates and other collectable stones and joined in. He introduced himself, it was Alan Herbert -- Author, Contributing Editor of Numismatic News, and past ANA Governor. He was interested by my BCBHDC collection and story (yes, there was a computer with internet capabilities at hand) and wanted me to submit a little history about building it to him in the near future! We talked and he told some stories both funny and sad and a few jokes about coin collecting over the past 60 odd years.

Good for you--good buy, better to meet someone like that. Watch out--I'm going to show up at your house for a rockhounding tour!

Great report, Ben! Congrats on your CBH purchase and on meeting Alan Herbert.

Unless they're PCGS or NGC MS-65 coins, $300 for an 1878-S Morgan is quite a deal (for the seller!). We had an MS-63 NGC-slabbed example (nice-looking), that went begging at our club auction the other day, at a starting bid of $65 or so. I wouldn't expect your average Morgan from a roll to be any better than MS-63.

Maybe you found the one good deal at that show!
