I know these are notoriously hard to grade due to the poor quality planchets that were used, and I'm not even sure whether this one would actually qualify for grading or whether it would get a "details" grade. I'm thinking it might possibly be around a F15 or so, but I'll leave it up for you guys to decide:

I'm aware of the planchet problems in that time period but that coin seems to me to have TOO MUCH of a surface problem.
I'd be concerned about it being a cast copy.

It's definitely not a cast copy. I just used harsh side lighting to provide the most amount of detail.

FWIW, here's another shot without the harsh lighting:

It's a really dark coin, so I had to over-expose it quite a bit to get the details in the original pictures.

Definitely environmental damage. The obverse might warrant a corrosion designation. I would be in the fine-details camp. Just picked up an 1808 myself.

I'm a guy that stays away from "details" coins. That being said, this is a nice F-12. I would say there is an outside shot of a straight grade on this one. Sometime pictures exaggerate the porosity and other flaws. I zoom the pic out on my phone so that the coin is close to actual size and re-evaluate. I would have no problem owning this coin. Nice one!

F12 Details. high amount of porosity but keep in mind how these planchets were acquired.
