So I have a rather large collection of imperial Russian, German, and Prussian coins. I've been collecting them since my Freshmen year of college and the collection has gotten pretty big.

I want to display the collection in my workshop/office. It's kinda useless to just have them sitting around in a box when I could have them hanging on my wall.

So I wanted to build a frame with Plexiglas and oak but I don't know what backer to use. I want something that isn't going to tarnish the coins. I keep most of them in plastic to protect them now but that's not needed if they are in a frame. Was hoping felt would work. It's cheap and wound make it easy to keep the coins in place.

Also have a few imperial Russian bills and Zimbabwe billion dollar bills I'll be making a different frame for.

Hi Sharpie, Dorado has a good idea there. I've seen mountings for the round plastic "Cointains", that will direct fit most coins by size(mm) or use felt ring inserts to hold coins of different sizes. If these are a valuable set of coins, it would make a wonderful display piece and be worth some in value later on. If these are more contemporary, consider and weigh the value/investment of an expensive mount. Sounds really impressive tho, have to give us some pix when you do!

And a lot easier than trying to build something like that.
