Who would have thought that 31 years later they would be going out of business. 1986 100 year anniversary sears token. A little smaller than a quarter . I wonder what genuine materials it contains.

Yes one of the many items that contained extremely small amounts as many items did for the bicentennial. Around here they end up in the .50 bin. Like some of the silver that was stored in the vault at the WTC they remelted the mass and made some very nice rounds and bars from it.

As for Sears, they started circling the drain along time ago. When they started giving people a hard time about the life time warranty on tools. And the slogan over each door. "Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back"
Plus the local one at the mall had so few people working, and spoke little to no English. I haven't been in one of their stores in 14 years. just like what the parent company is doing to K-mart. Squeeze every dime out of them then sell the real estate.

Thanks for the comments. I was way off in my thinking, I was thinking sears 100 year anniversary it never even crossed my mind that it was the centennial for the Statue of Liberty. Although I did wonder why lady liberty was on the token.

I actually enjoy going to Sears, now. I can shop there for as long as I want and not be bothered by Anybody. I think they can make a campaign about having a private shopping experience. As for the medal?

The statue of liberty was dedicated in 1886.
Sears Roebuck and Co was founded in 1886.
So they both had a 100 year anniversary in the same year.

These have been discussed here before:
