1827 Half Dollar, Incomplete Clip (Planchet?) Please Check It Out.

yontan Valued Member United States 292 Posts	Posted 04/26/2017 11:37 am I have had this coin for almost 40 years, and always believed it to be a possible incomplete clip. A couple of years ago I saw an article in Canadian Coin News by an error expert describing the same type of markings. He described the process as a sort of "cookie cutter" effect. I am including his pictures that mimic mine. The curved marks on the half dollar are exactly the same size as similar year U.S. half dollars. Report this Post to the Staff

I think it's too easy for graders to simply say "damaged", or PMD, without looking and explaining how this happened, as the Canadian error expert did. You will notice the strong similarity in the marks on the Canadian cent to the half dollar. Report this Post to the Staff

In my opinion from what Ive seen on incomplete clips this is right.... It looks very good to me. Id say maybe try to sell or grade directly through fred weinberg.
