Hi all, I'd like an opinion on this half. It's a little time sensitive, as the listing ends within 24 hours and I want to bid accordingly. I've got it at AU53/AU55. Your thoughts?

Not UNC. Harshly cleaned making it a details grade coin. It is DDR but do you want a cleaned coin? Totally up to you!

Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. I'm not too good at noticing cleanings, apparently. Could you point out giveaways, or should I search ccf for a thread? Most of the cleaning threads I've read here are people asking about whether to clean coins, and not about how to tell if a coin has been cleaned.

Just look at all the minute scratches on the surfaces - and the bright silver color.

There seems to be light cleaning. I would grade this as AU53 and will not pay more than $16. You might want to consider ANACS slabbed AU 50/53 coins. You can probably get a common date for $25.

Shiny, cleaned silver coins drive me nuts!

But if this is the actual coin you will receive I'd say maybe 30$ as the picture that is shown in the auction is an actual Doubled Die Reverse. I've seen low grade DDR's go for around 50$ - but those were uncleaned.

Thanks again, guys. I've been keeping an eye out for the 1946 DDRs. I'm not sure of the value of this one, so I'll just keep an eye on the price for a bit.

Update: Hammered down at $64.39 -- I was not ready to go anywhere near that high. I figure this coin might resell for $120 properly attributed.

This seller has quite a few "uncirculated" coins that show obvious signs of wear. I would generally avoid, but I figured if I'm cherrypicking against bidders viewing it as a normal coin, why not?

I see hairlines in the obv fields. from the pic it's cleaned. I would pass.

AU-55, and I was also thinking it was cleaned. The brightness of the pictures does not help though.

I had it on my watch list, was curious as to what the final price would be. I had it at xf-45 au-50 details. not worth more than 30ish in my opinion.

The coin has either been dipped too many times or cleaned with an abrasive. I am not an expert on doubled dies so I don't know how rare this is. If it's something that you never going to see for a very long time and really want, then consider bidding. Otherwise pass.
