I'd say VF-30, maybe 35, for both. The second coin is better than the fiest, IMO.

looks conservative for me. these are very attractive early Seated halves.

Where the 2 TPG's got it wrong is the actual attribution of the coins. They are both 1840 (O) Reverse of 1838 and NOT 1840 Reverse of 1839. A little difference in the coin and the price.

My grade for the first one would be VF-30. It has lots of wear, and is not really close to EF-40. The second grade is accurate. I would have said VF-20, but VF-25 is close enough.
