Hi All!
I started my coin collecting unintentionally. As a teen, I worked the register at McD's. This was in the 90's. As I was handling some change one day, I noticed a dime that sounded different when clinking against other change. Upon closer inspection, it looked like silver. (I was an avid wearer of silver jewelery). I happened to have a dime in my pocket, so I swapped it out and did some research that night. As you can probably guess, it was a pre-1965 dime.
Thus began my collection. I kept change in my pocket for such random encounters, and soon had a decent amount of silver quarters and dimes (11-13 dimes and 4 or 5 quarters), a 40% JFK piece, and a %90 one. I even acquired a flattened quarter (which I still have). At some point after moving out on my own, a crooked roommate stole all my junk silver. I was devastated, particularly because I no longer worked at a place where I came into contact with large amounts of change any more.
Recently, I chanced upon a silver quarter and started collecting again. I currently have another %40 JFK, one quarter, and two dimes. I also have a bunch of wheat pennies (I don't buy those, I just keep them when I come across them), a circulated 1952 Ben Franklin, a P and D 1964 mint set, A bicentennial Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Washington set (toned, not silver), a steel penny, a
Mercury dime, and a
Buffalo nickel, and my first two 1-oz silver eagles, 2015 BU that I got today.
I'm more interested now in collecting the silver eagles than junk silver, and plan on getting at least 4 a month from here on out. The year is unimportant to me, but the closer to spot the better.
