I found this really dark, old LWC coin roll hunting and I couldn't identify the date. Looks like it's metal detected. Is there a way I could get a date off this? I don't really care about damaging it because it's probably worthless anyways.

Nope, pretty well ett up. Only thing is try soaking in mineral oil for a few...months! Nreally, that's what sometimes works on older Indians and even ancients. May be able to loosen some of the crud after a soak, but I'd imagine is too corroded to get much.

You could go the ancient coin route and use a toothbrush. I don't think there's much you could do unfortunatly as the lettering that hasn't been damaged as badly by the corrosion is even unreadable.

Instead.... Maybe sell it on ebay as a "1943 experimental copper"(joking)

In that state, I don't think it's worth trying. If it's just an experiment, some sort of acid (e.g. CLR) will be the best bet.

Personally, I wouldn't bother no matter what the date/MM is.

Some metal detectorist have had success with heating their crusty coppers in an oven. For one that bad stove top gas or electric heat might remove enough to see where the date was.
