Greetings -- this is my first time buying coins, and I wanted to get myself a medieval coin with a year on it. This one caught my eye:

https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/dt...Default.aspx

What do you think are the chances of it not being authentic?

Thanks for your help!

First, to CCF!

Vcoins is one of the most highly reputable websites when it comes to ancient, medieval, and early modern coins.

All Vcoins dealers agree to be bound by their code of ethics, which means that the only way they can sell fakes is if they are listed as such.

You can take a look at the dealers feedback and other coins for sale, and everything seems to check out.

Also, the coin looks genuine. I don't see any signs of it being cast.

So, if I were you, go for it! The coin looks genuine in all appearances.

@igorlabutov, first welcome to CCF. Second, there is nothing about that coin that strikes me as being fake. Perhaps a bit overpriced, but real IMHO.

This coin is 100% genuine. When you buy from Vcoins there is always a 100% guarantee. I've been buying from Vcoins for years and never had a problem with any of their dealers.

Yes, Vcoins requires a very high standard of ethics, and guarantees all coins for life.

That said, I think the coin is very overpriced. Unless there is something special about it, Hungarian denars are seldom worth more than $10 in that condition.
