I'm thinking like maybe a cap for a bottle. But I can't find any cap online matching the design. Too shallow to be a bottle cap and does not match any of the known types in common use over the last hundred years. Wax molds are easier to manage than hot-wax stamps, simply let the sealing wax cool just to a soft malleability and then transfer it to whatever you're trying to seal. I agree with spruett that it might also be a button cover. paralyse Bedrock of the Community United States 12057 Posts	Posted 05/06/2017 8:49 pm Wax is poured into the mold, leaving one side embossed and the other side flat. The flat side is then affixed to the paper. Therefore it would not be mirrored, the result of pouring sealing wax into a regular mold is essentially the same as the mold, but cast in wax; if OP's widget were a wax mold, the resulting cast wax would look exactly like the mold, but not hollow.
