But I wanted to get anyone's opinion on this.
I found this buried under a bush that I was removing since it died. I'm thinking like maybe a cap for a bottle. But I can't find any cap online matching the design. It was rusty but it cleaned up pretty well.

What does the other side look like?

It could be part of a button or a snap or some sort of inlay/decoration.

Sealing wax mold. Too shallow to be a bottle cap and does not match any of the known types in common use over the last hundred years.

Wax molds are easier to manage than hot-wax stamps, simply let the sealing wax cool just to a soft malleability and then transfer it to whatever you're trying to seal.

I agree with spruett that it might also be a button cover.

I've never used one but, if it were a sealing wax mold, shouldn't the letters be mirrored?

Wax is poured into the mold, leaving one side embossed and the other side flat. The flat side is then affixed to the paper. Therefore it would not be mirrored, the result of pouring sealing wax into a regular mold is essentially the same as the mold, but cast in wax; if OP's widget were a wax mold, the resulting cast wax would look exactly like the mold, but not hollow.

I'm leaning more towards button cover.

I understand but, I would really like to see the back side of this cap. I now get the wax stamp vs. wax mold thing. Thanks!

The more I look at this, the more it looks like a button cap. OP?
