I'm using a usb microscope camera. It takes excellent pics of pennies and other coins. BUT I have 2- 1859 Canadian large cents and the camera will only show them as a silver color.

What is happening here? Anyone have a suggestion.

Sometimes when the lighting angle is high, the copper color is masked by some sort of reflection from the coin's surface. This reflection can even be purplish or iridescent on some coins. This effect is most extreme with axial lighting. With a lower lighting angle, more of the copper color sometimes comes through. Not all copper coins behave this way, however.

Is you USB camera set for auto white balance? AWB can really mess up the colors. Try putting a tiny piece of white paper on top of the coin and see if it does the same thing.
