The last few purchases I've made on ebay have given me the option of not using my Paypal balance and instead offers to use a credit card (any card I enter) for payment. In the past if a Paypal balance was available it was always used first (without options) before any other funding source could be used.

I really like this option and wondered if everybody is seeing it? In recent surveys I complained about having to first use my PP balance and it seems they have taken action and now offer various choices for payment sourcing.

The main reason I appreciate this is that I buy USPS 1st Class package postage through Paypal and if you have no Paypal balance it hits your bank account directly. Now I can retain Paypal funds for postage purchases and earn credit card Cashback on every ebay purchase. A nice change.

With all the complaints about ebay and Paypal I thought it would be good to post this positive thread.

It seems like a sensible option. Maybe it has something to do with the eBay/PayPal split?

For me, it doesn't change anything. My PayPal balance is essentially our second bank account and if the balance is too low it means I shouldn't be buying anything from ebay.

I think to a certain dollar amount it lets you. After that is reached, back to no option.

At least, that's been my experience.

This was one of my pet peeves about ebay where Paypal balance was used first. As far as I'm concern, available balance is same as cash which I can transfer to my bank account. I always want to use a credit card as an added security.

It's been like this since I started making purchases again this year. My first was in February or March. First option is (1) PayPal, which opens a submenu to choose between PayPal balance and the linked credit card, (2) PayPal credit, or (3) any credit card.

Yes, I've noticed it too. Was a real pain before, because I always had to make sure I kept my Paypal balance at zero if I wanted to use my CC. Smart for Paypal, now people will leave more money in their Paypal accounts

I've been paying with PayPal, but using the linked credit card. The reasons are threefold: (1) points/miles for using my credit card; (2) PayPal buyer protection; (3) credit card buyer protection. This is on top of whatever ebay offers. I don't think it likely that I'll need to fall back twice, but at least the option is there.
