Hi,
I am new and looking for some wiser of a person to bestow some wisdom onto my newbi butt.

First off, I'm not looking to speculate and make quick returns for profit. My goal here is to preserve my wealth by diversifying and maybe a little investing too.

My goal for this year is to buy silver and gold and maybe 1oz of rhodium bar (wild card).

Silver I am looking to buy 2x kilo, 5x 5oz and 5x 10oz bars. I figure anything lower in size would be too small to hoard for silver since the value is so low.
Gold I am looking at just 2-3 oz bar.

I'm in PM for purely the value of the metal and not the design or collection aspect of it.
I'm curious as to which is more liquidable and hold more confidence when time to resell 10+ years down the road, cast bars or minted bars?

thanks
Rest in Peace

First, to the family!

Not a big time investor seeing don't have a lot to be investing, har, har! I've delt with the different bullion companies around, they seem to give you better prices and deals, especially if you do volume. My LCS sometimes makes a deal, but he's gotta make a buck. Think places like Provident Metals which I've have good, fast and efficient service and customer relations is quite good. Sorry can't give any real investment stratagies or advice. I would think that even tho it's cast, is the purity up to snuff? I don't know those things, why I'd stick with a Mint bar.

They taste better anyway...

Just remember that if you need to unload the larger the bar weight the harder it is to find a buyer, the bigger the discount off spot. I wouldn't buy anything over 10 Troy ounces. Locally in the Metro Detroit area at spot there is also at least $20.00/$30.00 discount for 100. t oz. And I have been told some pawn shops will want as much as $100. of the value above what they will pay for it.
As far as the cast or mint finished bars. Since you aren't collecting, a lot of the cast bars are collectors or pirate type issues, ship wreck with an imprint or skull cast into them.
I would stay away from an that are being sold by people contacting you or ebay, Craiglist etc. I had somebody message me on this board and wanted to sell me some he was casting at below spot first off, he said that they were 925 pure which isn't what you want, Sterling silver is 92.5 . Buy from a reputable source, The are too many fakes, con jobs, etc.
Check out you local coin dealers, and pawn shops for used silver bars people sell they sell for a lower premium above spot than new items. Stay with the well know Names like Englehard, Sunshine mint, Silvertowne.
Buy looking at a couple of the well know bullion sites and get an idea of what has higher premiums
JM Bullion, silvertowne, A-mark are a few

Just remember it will take longer to get the PM's than it says on their sites. they will hold shipment till the money is in their accounts and then there may be delays with fulfillment of the orders as some carry no inventory and depend on others to ship what they sell.

If it were me, I would not buy anything larger than 1 oz. gold and 10 oz. silver as they are much harder to sell.
Silver kilos aren't too bad I suppose but most I have seen for sale are not the "generic" types.
Keep us posted!

Sunshine mint are good for the money.id stick with within 10oz or under.
Mint bars command less premium than poured bars from what ive seen. 100oz bars and nice too look at But not good investment wise when you can get generic mint bars close to spot.
Kilo wise APMEX bars are good price. I got em at their flash sales.
I would throw in providents 5oz to 10oz prospect bars to diversify. They are awesome.
Kilo and 100oz stack the best in a safe.
