I recently picked up an 1853 halfpenny and I want to get some opinions/thoughts about the date on the coin from folks with lots more knowledge than I have. It doesn't really look like an 1853/2, but it is definitely an 1853 over something. I presume that repunched dates were fairly common in the mid 1800's, but this is appears to be a fairly pronounced example.
Repunched? 1853 over . . . what? Pretty normal for the time? Does it have added value over a "clean" 1853? Reduced value?
