However, the terminal stage of verdigris is also black cupric oxide. It doesn't matter, you would not want to remove this residue or you'll likely have a big spot of discoloration on the reverse. panzaldi Bedrock of the Community United States 18668 Posts	Posted 05/07/2017 6:52 pm whats strange is that the black does not cross over the lettering. very weird if it was something like a burn mark from an acid. I'm not an expert but I'm thinking this could have been a defective planchet that slipped through as it looks like the strike occurred after it was already there. Report this Post to the Staff
