Hi all, won this on ebay and looked acceptable to my particular brand of coins for my 7070! I see some dings on the rims which is ok but was wondering if on the rev. at about the 10'clock under the D... does that look like a hole that was re-filled? Not sure but there is a return policy in case.. seller photos aren't the greatest but what thoughts have everyone? Thanks for looking!

That spot under the "D" could be some kind of repair. If the dies are lined up in the usual "coin" turn, there might be something going on at the tip of Ms. Liberty's bust to the left of the date on the obverse. It almost looks like the photograph was smoothed in that area with the "free hand painting" option that I have on my picture processing software. I'd look at those two areas very carefully when you get the coin.

Yeah I can almost see what you mean by the smoothing of the obverse. I will give that a look once it arrives. Even/non-distracting cleanings I can deal with (mostly just looking for nice details) but a repaired hole is way too much in terms of damage for me. Thanks!

Ok and that was about what the seller said his opinion was. Cleaning I am fine with to save some money, but just have to see about that one spot. Thanks for the opinions!

Ok got the coin. IMO looks better in hand than those pictures the seller had. Also two workers at my LCS said they don't believe that point under the "D" in UNITED is damage seems like some sort of "something" they said (I can't remember their exact wordings). Also said they didn't think damage because it has that coloring around other parts of the coin as well.

Yeah I will double check they said it seems to be the same "stuff" that shows up for ex. on the "R" in AMERICA. I will ask their opinions again just to see I looked at it closer and could accept it didn't seem exactly like damage. I may need to stop at my other LCS though as well because the one I normally go to may not be as "expert" on coins as they are silver/gold traders.

So asked my other LCS and he said it a lot more my understanding. Seems to him to be a spot where there was debris or stuff that fell off after the rest of the coin toned. So no damage and he said it would probably be the same if I took a toothpick to the area to the left of that spot too. He said seemed like a nice coin overall.

Well think I am keeping this one then as the details are nice enough for me and was under my price limit for a VF details coin. Now only one more Seated half dime until I finish my first full page of my 7070!
