I have some coins my aunt had left me before she passed. 2 were Indian head pennies. One has a very predominate mark of a J that looks to be a mint mark however I know that mint marks were not used until the 1900s. Any idea as to what it could be?

to CCF!

It looks like pitting/corrosion due to environmental damage; the J shape is likely just a coincidence.
