So I may be taking a look at a big collection of coins with mostly early PCI holders. These are the old green, 10-digit labeled PCI holders.

Obviously each coin is different but can anybody attest to how accurate these usually are?

In the past (over 15 years ago) I had submitted many coins to both PCI (when they used the green Labels) & SEGS as the top two were to expensive to slab coins valued under $100 each.

When ebay changed their listing policy on slabbed coins, I crossed over a number of coins from both PCI & SEGS to ANACS, and both companies were on par with ANACS...

Why ebay allowed ANACS to be an acceptable/reputable Grader and not the other two is anyone's guess, but I'm guessing money has something to do with their decision..

Red label = problem coin.

Gold label = may or may not be graded correctly.

Green label, 10 digit - usually ok, but, examine each coin on own merit.

Personally, I look for the green holder coins.

Also, there can be some wild toning in PCI holders. Terminal black = terminal black though!

I will mostly concur that the Green PCI are the best of the lot, but as always, grade the coin yourself, don't go by the slab.

The newer PCI holders are about as good as NNC, i.e. the slab grade is like playing roulette with a grade wheel numbered PO1-MS70.

The ebay requirement is that the TPG has an online accessible database of their slab numbers.
Originally only PCGS and NGC met those qualifications.
Later ANACS spent the time and money for their database.
SEGS and PCI has never done that hence that are not acceptable to ebay.
But as TPG's they were considered acceptable with the caveat that it's recommended that they be sight seen.

Also make sure it is a GENUINE PCI green label, not the 2012 fakes.

The give away there is the microprinted box. It's not a thin black line. On the old PCI slabs, it's actually the letters PCI repeated endlessly in about 1-2 pt type. On the fakes, it's just little blobs from copying the old label.

SEGS did create the database that ebay wanted, why ebay has not allowed them to be listed since then I do not know.
